Somebody capable of being *preneurial in multiple contexts.
I’ve heard people describe themselves as serial entrepreneurs. I suppose I could say I am something of a cross-preneur: I like experimenting with *preneurial behaviors in different contexts. Serial *preneurship would bore me. I’ve been meaning to write something about entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship for the last few weeks, since it recently hit me that I have approximately a year of experience with each of these. My thoughts went, perhaps inevitably, from a list of differences, to a list of similarities, to an attempt at synthesis. I can’t claim to have achieved a synthesis — a definition of *preneurship say — but I’ve made some indirect progress by focusing on the concept of ‘cross-preneur’ (I’ll remove the hyphen if the term catches on). Here are some things I’ve learned about being a cross-preneur, defined as somebody capable of being *preneurial in multiple contexts. - Culturepreneur

The Food’preneur…(from Real Business, March 2008) It was the early sixties when entrepreneur Tony Deep packed up his bags and boarded the plane to Britain. He was just 18, he’d never stepped outside his home country and he had a measly £3 in his pocket. He did a stint as a cement mixer then “shunted trains” for British Rail before signing up for a secretarial course at a local college. “My teacher thought I was only interested in the programme because there were 25 women in the class,” he says. “She was shocked when I took the test: I typed 100 words a minute.” It was there that he met Barbara – now his wife – who helped him find a job as a door-to-door salesman, selling eggs to Asian housewives. He started to make a tidy little profit. Chatting to his customers each day, typically about the curries they were preparing for their evening meal, Deep started to realise the potential of the food trade and set up his own wholesale business. Today, The East End Foods brand can be found in 80 per cent of the UK’s independent Asian corner shops – that’s a whopping 1,800 stores. http://www.truelegal.co.uk/21/entrepreneur-types/ - Futurpreneur

Former military personnel who seek to start their own businesses
The idea of Heropreneurs came about after our founder Richard Morris met a decorated former soldier who had been out of the British army for several years. John had come from a background of grinding poverty in the north of England, had led a chaotic life before joining up and for a few years had led an equally chaotic life after leaving the forces. Becoming a business owner by accident, Richard met John five years after he had set up in business, his company was turning over close to £1m a year and employing 50 people. Bootstrapping his business from day one, he worked full out for seven days a week and kept his customers happy, day after day. He put his success down to his military training, the ability to get on with people and the tenacity to succeed. Heropreneurs is backed by successful entrepreneurs, politicians, armed forces veterans from all ranks and business leaders. We are the only registered charity in the UK which works exclusively to help former members of the armed forces, and their spouses to fulfill their potential to set up and run their own businesses. - Homepreneur

Entrepreneurs who are taking advantage of the needs of small budget travellers in order to enter the hotel business.
The Hotel’preneur…(from Start Your Business, 2008) Suave and enigmatic entrepreneur, Robert B Cook took on the Malmaison group in 1996 and made it his own. Their UK hotels satisfy almost every pleasure palatable and with the Hotel du Vin group now under his belt they are set to become a global brand. Their signature style of utilising historical buildings and fusing it with warped neon-nightclub interiors is unlike anything else. Asked how to encourage enterprise and increase the number of hoteliers in the UK, Robert says, ‘You need to start off by getting the first one absolutely right; like we did in Edinburgh, then roll it out progressively with the support of a good brand. There’s a lot of solvent funds and vulture funding schemes out there, so it’s not the time to be talking about bad footed investment as the world is in a bit of turmoil at the moment. There are a lot of venture capitalists that like what we are doing and like one-off hotels that are beginning to grow. It really is all about your first one and not just focusing solely on design. Too often hotels hide behind the veneer of design and can’t even get service right! You have to overplay service at the right price to get the right investment in return- it’s a beneficial circle.’ http://www.truelegal.co.uk/21/entrepreneur-types/ - Infopreneurship

You may even have an idea what you'd love to be doing, yet something's holding you back from taking that first step - keeping you at the 'proto-preneur' stage, right on the cusp. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5600746 - Retailpreneur
A person who takes a small sum and turns it into more profit through retail.
The Retail’Preneur… (from The Observer, July 2007) Sceptics predicted classroom chaos when 10,000 of the nation’s teenagers were handed £10 and invited to use it to make as much money as they could in a month. But pupils from 120 schools across Britain took the challenge so seriously, and raised so much money they put the contestants in Dragons’ Den and The Apprentice to shame. The highest profit on £10 was £410; a 4,100 per cent increase in a month. The average profit was £99.33, a 993 per cent increase, and the biggest team profit was £1,000. Fazila Dadabhoy, 15, from Walthamstow School for Girls in east London, who earned the £410, persuaded local businesses to donate machines and ingredients she needed to make doughnuts and then reinvested the profits she made from selling them. ‘I never thought of myself as an entrepreneurial-type of person before, but this has really opened out my horizons,’ she said. ‘I don’t usually take risks, but because it was such a small sum of money to lose, in such a short amount of time, I gave it a go.’ http://www.truelegal.co.uk/21/entrepreneur-types/ - Ruralpreneurship

This is not a surreal scene painted by Salvador Dali, but rather a workshop convened by The Finance Innovation Lab (which Rachel co-founded). The purpose? To capture the energy created by the financial crisis to bring together people who don’t normally talk to one another to design a new financial system. This group knew that unusual solutions were needed — ones that acknowledge the complex interconnected issues that make a failing system so hard to transform. It can be a daunting task. After all, when a disaster like the financial crisis hits, which problem do you tackle first? Bankers’ bonuses? The failure of legislation? Consumers’ over-reliance on credit cards? It’s clear that a focus on one problem in isolation will be ineffective. To address this complexity there is a growing breed of experts who identify the root causes of problems and set about finding long-term and long lasting solutions. We call them “systempreneurs.” - Systempreneur

https://twitter.com/teenpreneurs https://teenpreneurs.wordpress.com/about/ Teen-preneurs is a group comprised of pre-teens, teens and young adult entrepreneurs. We currently own and operate three companies. We will talk a bit more about some of our companies and our different entrepreneurial endeavors as time goes on in our blog. Our entrepreneurial journey began when we were just kids. Our parents always have challenged us to learn all that we can about money and money management. Rather than giving us things, they chose to teach us to earn them. We initially got started on our first entrepreneurial endeavor because of an home school assignment our dad gave us. To be honest only one of us was actually motivated to actually do any work, but when the checks and money started coming in, everyone suddenly became highly motivated. That was more than 6 years and two companies ago. Our dad insisted that we learn all that we can now about finances while we were kids and under the safety net of youth. His was goal was to prevent us from becoming like a lot of people who make bad choices because of financial reasons. It was mostly Dad’s idea in the beginning but thankfully he was patient and continued to encourage us and push us in the right direction. along with the companies we own and operate we also participate in research programs offering our opinions and insight on product development for some major companies which earns us some pretty good income as well. We have discovered that a lot of people would like to know more about money, starting a business or even investing but just aren’t sure where to start. Hopefully regardless of age we can show you a few things that just might trigger your imagination and inspire you to begin or continue on your own entrepreneurial journey Our goal is to share some of the things we have learned on our journey as entrepreneurs, and to learn a few new things as well. One of the key things we have learned is to have fun and enjoy the journey. We will post more later…right now work is calling. - Teenpreneurs
